Former Love Islander Jess Hayes has revealed that contestants on the show are allowed to make secret clothes orders from ASOS to freshen up their wardrobes during their time in the villa. Jess, 29, won the first series of Love Island in 2015 and back then, the show lasted 41 days, whereas now, it lasts eight weeks, and given that we see the Islanders dressed in something different every day, it's no surprise that they need more than what they packed in their suitcases.
Jess revealed to the Daily Star that the producers of the hit ITV2 show allow the Islanders to top up their wardrobes to keep them looking stylish on the show. In a conversation with the publication, Jess said: "We did get a little budget for an ASOS order and I needed it! My little red dress I wore towards the end was ASOS.
So we had that ASOS budget, I think it was on either a laptop or it might even have been on phones." Whilst that was the case for Jess' series of the show, it's not clear whether this still applies for this year's contestants as this series of Love Island is sponsored by online marketplace eBay, which has taken over from its previous fast-fashion sponsors such as Missguided. The move aims to inspire the nation to choose pre-loved first when shopping and encourage conversations that challenge fast fashion with more sustainable styles as a result. The contestants of this year's series are all said to be wearing second-hand clothing from the online retailing giant.
OK! has contacted representatives at ITV for comment. Jess also revealed that, whilst contestants do their own makeup, they do get treated to having their nails done, and sometimes even their hair, although we don't see it on the show.
