Love Island's Jacques O'Neill discusses exit as he's supported by mum in audience

Jacques O'Neill gave his first televised interview since sensationally quitting Love Island on Sunday night, appearing on After Sun with the support of his mum who was in the crowd. The 23 year old left the villa last week after tearfully explaining to Paige Thorne that he didn't feel like himself. Speaking to Laura Whitmore about how he's felt better since seeing his mum and friends from home, Jacques explained: "I needed it.
I needed just to see the boys, my mum," to which Laura added: "Mum's in the audience!" Jacques continued: "I just needed that, it got way too much for me in there. I removed myself from the situation where I didn't want to be in no more." Jacques also spoke about how he watched his exit video with his mother, who was sitting in the Aftersun audience. "The first thing I did when I got home I watched the episode with my mum, the last episode," he revealed.
"And I said to my mum, 'listen I've got no tears left', I've been so emotional. "I literally stuck it on and I was putting on a brave face in front for my mum." He added: "I've got a lot of work to do on myself and I know that. If that's what I've got out of this show and I'm going to be a better person." Despite their challenges, Jacques had a strong romance with Paige and even told her to do what she needs to do whilst being in the villa and that he'll be waiting outside.
Opening up about the connection, the rugby player told Laura: "From day one, I literally said to my mum before I went in there, 'I want to go in' and in my last relationship I wasn't really myself and I just want to be myself with a girl.
