World renowned documentary producer Louis Theroux has candidly opened up to his fans about his ongoing struggle with alopecia, as he issued an update on the condition online. The 53 year old journalist took to Instagram on Tuesday (August 22) where he went on to reveal a new set of bald patches had begun to appear on the top of his head. Alongside a selfie, Louis wrote: “Alopecia update (try to remain calm!): new bald patches are appearing in my “top hair” (the hair on top of my head).” However, rather than be dismayed by the development, the star did cheekily admit there was a silver lining, as he told his followers: “ BUT I can now grow a weird straggly and rather sparse white beard.
“So that’s something. And there are some tiny patches of regrowth on my eyebrow. FWIW I’ve been taking vitamin D, iron, and something called biotin.
Is it helping? Who knows?” Louis first opened up about his battle with alopecia earlier this this year, when the previously hirsute star had noticed his beard was beginning to grow patchily. Writing at the time, Louis confessed that he suspected the cause was “probably alopecia,” something he has since confirmed. “Basically I get a little triangle of stubble around my mouth and some more at the sides,” he said in January.
“It’s not a big deal, but I don’t want people to think I’m doing something creative with my facial hair and doing it badly, when it’s just what I look like when I don’t shave.” Louis later confirmed that he did indeed suffer from “alopecia barbae”, an auto-immune condition that sees the body attack its own hairs after believing them to be a threat. Since his latest update, fans have been sending messages of support to Louis, including a number of famous faces. Former TOWIE
