In 1994 at the Cannes Film Festival when Quentin Tarantino‘s “Pulp Fiction” was announced as the winner of the coveted Palme d’Or prize, many in the audience gasped, booed, and nearly rioted. The feeling was Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski‘s “Red,” the masterful finale of his breathtaking Three Colors trilogy was robbed, and look, “Pulp Fiction” might’ve changed American cinema and pop culture and made a big meteor-like crater on the landscape, but there’s no way anyone can tell me that Kieślowski’s “Red,” didn’t deserve the prize instead (to this day there are lots of articles about this controversial moment in cinema, including our own).

She was 65 years old.Lynch has now posted a short video offering his response to Cruise’s death. “I just found out that the great Julee Cruise passed away,” he said in the clip.

Julee Cruise, known for her frequent collaborations with director David Lynch, has sadly passed away.

David Lynch, has died aged 65. Her husband, Edward Grinnan, wrote on Facebook: “She left this realm on her own terms. No regrets.

“The Wizard of Oz” is the all-movie; in my film school days, professors would use King Vidor’s canon cornerstone as a teachable exemplar for just about everything, from the usage of color to the dream-logic of cinema to the mechanisms of Golden Age Hollywood manufacturing. The new documentary “Lynch / Oz” applies this lens as a way of seeing the works of David Lynch with greater clarity and understanding, and in doing so, draws on the seemingly infinite number of angles from which the foundational fantasy can be analyzed.

Her husband, Edward Grinnant, revealed the news on a B-52’s Facebook page, as first reported by The Guardian. Cruise was an occasional touring member of the band, acting as Cindy Wilson’s stand-in on stretches from 1992 to 1999.“For those of you who go back I thought you might want to know that I said goodby to my wife, Julee Cruise, today,” he wrote.
