A Scots lorry driver who killed a mother-of-four in a horror crash has failed in a bid to overturn his prison sentence.
Ian Moorhouse, 64, pulled out from a queue of traffic and collided with Amanda Boag's Volkswagen Golf.
Moorhouse moved out at nearly 25mph to make a right turn into a side road, but his view ahead was blocked by a tractor and trailer, and he was unable to see the oncoming silver VW.
Mrs Boag, 39, swerved desperately but was unable to avoid the 16-tonne gas tanker in February 2020.
Motorists who rushed to her aid found her trapped and unresponsive.
Mrs Boag suffered 'catastrophic' injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene on the A811 in Stirlingshire by an emergency doctor.
Moorhouse, of Clackmannan, was jailed for a year at Falkirk Sheriff Court after admitting causing death by driving without due care or attention.
Sheriff Simon Collins QC, who had watched footage of the accident on screens, also banned him from driving for 46 months.
Moorhouse has now lost an attempt at throwing out his jail term at the Appeal Court in Edinburgh.
His lawyers had claimed he could have served community based sentence and had shown 'deep regret' over the tragedy.
However judges Lord Pentland and Lord Doherty have ruled against the bid and issued a judgement detailing why Moorhouse should remain behind bars.
Lord Pentland said: "In our opinion, a custodial sentence was amply merited in view of the high level of culpability and the terrible consequences.
"A non-custodial sentence would not have met the sentencing objectives of punishment and deterrence in view of the gravity of the present offence.
"We are satisfied that the approach taken by the sheriff was one that took proper account of all the relevant considerations. The
