Loose Women cancelled as Boris Johnson expected to resign

Loose Women has been pulled from ITV’s schedule today as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to resign around lunchtime. The daytime series has been replaced by the news to air Johnson’s expected resignation speech and the political decisions that will need to be made as a result. Fans of the talk show will have to tune in tomorrow for the next instalment or catch up with the week’s episodes on the ITVHub.
Lorraine’s programme was also interrupted today to bring a breaking news segment in before This Morning began at 11am. It was announced this morning that the Prime Minister will resign after winning the largest majority in an election since Margaret Thatcher when he was elected in 2019. It comes after MPs have called for Boris to resign after over 50 members of his cabinet have resigned in recent days including his previous tight knit supporters, Sajid Javid and Rishi Sunak. Mr Johnson is expected to address the nation in a speech to announce his resignation and a new Tory leader will be in post by October for the party conference.
The Sun reported that there will be an “orderly handover” where between Boris and the new PM in the coming months. Yet, it’s unclear if parliament will want him to stay in his current position or leave immediately. A source said: "Boris Johnson has spoken to Graham Brady and agreed to stand down as party leader so that a new leader can be in place by party conference.
