A sheriff has said 'little could have been done' to prevent the death of a 'popular and much loved' Aberdeenshire farmer.
Caroline Rennie, 21, was killed on April 3, 2021 after a horror farming accident which was caused by 'out of character' actions.
Emergency crews rushed to save the young farmer who had been injured by machinery near the Hatton Estate at Turriff but she sadly died as a result of her injuries.
Leading the fatal accident inquiry, Sheriff Robert Frazier said that Caroline, who was considered a pillar of the community, was killed after she tried to jump onto a moving tractor being driven by someone else.
Caroline had been observing other workers using tractors and went to check on progress at the family farm, Aberdeen Live reports.
But she lost her footing and was pulled underneath as her legs became caught in the machinery attached to the back of the vehicle, causing her death.
The driver of the heavy equipment, who has not been named, had been caught by surprise as Caroline had ran up 'suddenly and without warning' behind the tractor on his blind spot.
She died from multiple injuries sustained and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff's report concludes that there was little that could have been done to prevent her death.
It reads: "Caroline was highly experienced in agricultural farming techniques, including the use of large items of agricultural machinery.
"She had passed her driving test at 17 years of age and had operated tractors with appropriate supervision since she was 15 years old. Caroline was described in the report as an “extremely competent and careful equipment operator”.
