Liam Neeson opened up about how a priest’s reaction to him revealing a sin led him to stop going to confession.
If you were unaware, confession is a sacrament in the Catholic Church where practitioners share their sins with priests. After confessing, your sins are forgiven by the priest, who is acting through God, and penance is assigned.
The 71-year-old Taken star recalled an unpleasant experience at confession when he was a teen during a new interview.

While on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Liam told Conan O’Brien that he was about 15 years old when he went to confession to speak to a missionary from Africa that was visiting his church.
“But to hear your confession from him it was like a big deal,” he said. “So we start, and I had learned how to pleasure myself at home, onto the sheets, right?” At the time, he did some research to learn that he was describing masturbation.
Liam said he thought that the confession would be “harmless enough.” It did not go according to plan.
“You what,” the priest shouted when he admitted to pleasuring himself. “This guy, literally, I mean, he almost said things like, ‘The grass will grow over the palm of your hand before you’re 21! Stop that evil practice!’ He’s shouting this.”
It left a lasting impression on him. “That was the last time I ever went,” Liam explained.
Earlier this year Liam revealed the reason why he turned down a chance to play James Bond.
