When Lewis Capaldi took to the stage to collect the 2020 BRIT Award for Song of the Year this evening, he was quick to clear up any rumours about his ex-girlfriend, Paige Turley – “who you can now watch every night on Love Island” – being the source of inspiration for the track.
“It’s actually written about my grandmother who has very, very sadly passed away, and who I hope to God ITV don’t contact [to] ask to take part in a reality dating show,” he said.
