Sasha Leigh Henry, who created Canadian series Bria Mack Gets a Life, is expanding her business with New Metric Media.
The production company, which is behind the Crave series as well as long-running comedy Letterkenny, has signed Henry to a multi-year first-look deal.
Bria Mack Gets A Life, which has been described as spiritually similar to Issa Rae’s The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl, which turned into HBO’s Insecure, stars Malaika Hennie-Hamadi as Bria, who is navigating the very mundane and awkward world of employment after graduating from university. It launched on Crave in October.
Henry’s film Sinking Ship debuted at TIFF in 2020 and another feature Bitches Love Brunch was acquired by CBC Gem.
New Metric Media is also behind Letterkenny spinoff series Shoresy and Children Ruin Everything, which aired on The CW in the U.S.
“We’re delighted to expand on our collaboration with Sasha, an exceptionally talented and visionary creator,” said Mark Montefiore, Founder and CEO, New Metric Media. “Supporting unique and gifted voices like Sasha’s is at the core of our mission, and we’re excited to partner with her in bringing more compelling stories to life.”
“Working with New Metric to bring Bria Mack to life was an incredibly bonding experience,” added Sasha Leigh Henry. “As creative collaborators, I think we are a good match, and share a similar appetite for experimenting and shaking things up with the kind of comedic stories we want to tell and the way we put them out into the world. I’m elated to be continuing our partnership. If Bria Mack Gets A Life was just the beginning, I can only imagine what comes next.”
