The last photo of former professional rugby star Rob Burrow shows him smiling alongside his family at a fundraiser just weeks before his death. Rob tragically passed away at the age of 41 after a battle with the degenerative neurological condition Motor Neurone Disease. His former team Leeds Rhinos shared in a heartfelt statement that Rob "passed away peacefully" on Sunday, 2 June, surrounded by his family.
He was at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, near his home, at the time of his death after becoming unwell earlier in the week. Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019, just two years after he retired from his rugby league career. Following his diagnosis, he dedicated his time to helping raise awareness of the condition and funds for the MND (Motor Neurone Disease) Association, where he was a patron.
His close friend and former teammate Kevin Sinfield joined him on his fundraising ventures. On May 11, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Half Marathon was held in his honour, which saw around 14,000 runners take to the streets. Kevin took part in the event and was sweetly greeted by Rob at the finish line.
