A lap dancing club in Altrincham which has been the source of residents’ complaints over fighting, shouting and people urinating outside looks set to close after operating for 17 years. The owner of the town centre building which is home to Totties on George Street has submitted a planning application to redevelop the site which includes the ‘cessation’ of lap dancing on the first floor of the building and the creation of eight self-contained apartments.
The ground floor is currently occupied by The Works and Pita Box. In plans submitted on behalf of applicant Charlotte Street Estates Ltd, they say that current ground floor commercial use will be retained and there will be apartments on the first floor which will be extended and recladded.
Agent County Planning said in its proposal: “Several residential developments have come forward over recent years, and the area is undergoing a resurgence of investment and renewal of older building stock. Several streets nearby are earmarked for investment and improvement.”

County Planning’s documents say that parking for residential uses is not part of the plan. “This is in recognition of the wider spatial objective to make the core town centre a traffic-free pedestrian area,” they said.
“There exists plentiful private parking in the locality, but given the highly sustainable location, it is considered that private car ownership is not necessary at all due to the very close walking distances to train and bus services.”
In 2021, Totties was granted a licence to continue trading by Trafford council despite a tide of opposition from residents of the Causeway.
