Lainey Wilson Joins Dierks Bentley and Elle King as 'CMA Fest' Co-Hosts

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic It’s difficult to know whether Lainey Wilson would be as big a star as she’s recently become in the field of country music without the visibility boost she’s received from “Yellowstone.” The series began featuring her songs in season 2, a few years before Lainey was cast for a recurring role as a musician in season 5. The most likely answer: She’d probably be almost as big, even without the Taylor Sheridan factor. After all, it’s not a TV show that came up with the combination of country-rock singing chops, irresistible Louisiana accent and gosh-dang gung-ho that have captivated listeners to the point that, in short succession, she’s racked up four No. 1 Mediabase radio singles and been one of the leading winners at the CMA and ACM awards shows.

As "Yellowstone" prepares to wrap up the hit show after five seasons, Lainey Wilson is just as excited as fans to see how the series will end.  "I have realized that the TV world is even crazier than the music world," she said during an interview with People.  "I'm like, ‘Taylor Sheridan, you got to let me know what's going on, bro.’ I'm excited to see what happens.There’s no doubt the rest of season five is gonna be money." While the second half of the fifth season of "Yellowstone" is expected to premiere in November, the country star admitted she’s also in the dark about co-creator Sheridan’s plans for the series.  Wilson portrayed the singer Abby on the hit show "Yellowstone" for four episodes. The 30-year-old artist pointed out how "Yellowstone" has made a major impact in the western world and the music industry overall.  "What ‘Yellowstone’ has done for the western way of life has been a huge turning point," she said.

Bentley, who is co-hosting the three-day festival along with Elle King and Lainey Wilson, took to his TikTok to document the entire ordeal, noting it was his "night off." The video begins with Bentley in a store, following his daughter around as she peruses through merchandise. "What are these," she asks her father, pointing to brightly colored bras.

Country singer Dierks Bentley may be ready for his Hollywood debut.  Although he previously turned down an acting gig with Larry David, Bentley said if "Yellowstone" needed a new cowboy, he’d be there in a heartbeat.  "I love ‘Yellowstone,’" Bentley, 47, admitted during an interview at Country Music Association (CMA) Fest. "If Lainey Wilson wanted to drag me along to the next ‘Yellowstone’ shoot, let's go. I'm ready." The "Gold" singer made these comments during a press event at CMA Fest.

"Spider-Man" actor Tom Holland announced he’s momentarily taking a step back from his acting career.  After the British star struggled to play the role of producer and actor simultaneously, Holland revealed what pushed him to take a break from Hollywood.  "It was a tough time, for sure," the 27-year-old said during an interview with "Extra" for his film "The Crowded Room." "We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure." While Holland executive produced the dark psychological-thriller series, he admitted that portraying a character who is suffering from mental health issues at the same time wasn’t an easy task.  "I’m no stranger to hard work," Holland noted.

Lainey Wilson revealed she has been cozying up next to Devlin "Duck" Hodges for more than two years.  After the country star and former NFL player stepped out together on the 2023 ACM Awards red carpet for the first time in May, Wilson, 31, admitted they have been dating for quite some time. "He's been around for a while. I just decided to make him wait for two and a half years," she laughed on "The Bobby Bones Show." The "Yellowstone" star added that Hodges, 27, is "a good dude" and continued to explain why they decided to wait to publicly debut their relationship.  "He knows what it's like chasing a dream because he's done that for himself," Wilson said.

Dierks Bentley and Elle King will be joined by Lainey Wilson as the trio cohosts the upcoming CMA Fest summer concert special, airing Wednesday, July 19 on ABC, the Country Music Association announced on Monday. The three-hour primetime event will be filmed in Nashville, Tennessee, during CMA Fest's milestone 50th anniversary, scheduled for June 8-11. This year also marks the 20th consecutive year that CMA has produced a summer concert TV special. «I could not be more excited to welcome Dierks, Elle and Lainey as our hosts this year,» said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern in a statement.
