Toby Keith is posthumously heading to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Toby Keith was voted into the Country Music Hall of Fame one day after the singer died after a battle with stomach cancer. He was 62. Sarah Trahern, the CEO of the Country Music Association, made the revelation Monday after announcing that singer John Anderson, 69, and James Burton, 84, would be joining Keith in the prestigious honor.
Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Toby Keith, who died Feb. 5, is one of three inductees named Monday as the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, along with fellow country star John Anderson and legendary country-rock guitarist James Burton. Keith will be inducted posthumously, of course, but he was not elected posthumously.
Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic A lot of people who go back in country music, be it the fans or even some who work in the industry in Nashville, refuse to call the CMA Music Festival anything other than “Fan Fair,” the name the annual event had in the far more humble ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. That’s the era when it took place out amid the pungent aromas of Nashville’s fairgrounds, not in and around a downtown stadium. Rather than resist that nostalgia for a quainter era, the CMA indulged it this year by selling vintage-looking T-shirts at merch booths — which, by the way, Country Music Association CEO Sarah Trahern says sold quite well. The festival is definitely embracing its past by including that former moniker in the title of a new documentary, “CMA Fest: 50 Years of Fan Fair,” premiering on Hulu today.
Dierks Bentley and Elle King will be joined by Lainey Wilson as the trio cohosts the upcoming CMA Fest summer concert special, airing Wednesday, July 19 on ABC, the Country Music Association announced on Monday. The three-hour primetime event will be filmed in Nashville, Tennessee, during CMA Fest's milestone 50th anniversary, scheduled for June 8-11. This year also marks the 20th consecutive year that CMA has produced a summer concert TV special. «I could not be more excited to welcome Dierks, Elle and Lainey as our hosts this year,» said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern in a statement.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless and Bob McDill will be the Country Music Hall of Fame’s three 2023 inductees, it was announced in a news conference at the hall’s museum in Nashville Monday morning. Tucker will be inducted into the hall in the “Veterans Era Artist” category, while Loveless will get her entree in the “Modern Era Artist” category. McDill is to be inducted in the “Songwriter” category, which is in rotation with the “Recording and/or Touring Musician” and “Songwriter” categories, each coming up every three years. Cheers went up at the announcement ceremony as well as around Nashville, as all three have long been favored for induction, and Tucker and Loveless particularly talked up as should-be shoo-ins for their historical importance as leading women in the genre.
