Labour’s leader on Glasgow City Council is facing a challenge for the top job after a year in the post.
Insiders said Anderston councillor Philip Braat will take on George Redmond for the group leader position.
Rumours are also swirling that Newlands councillor Stephen Curran will challenge veteran Frank McAveety for the business manager role.
Redmond defeated the late Malcolm Cunning 25-11 last May to become Labour leader in the City Chambers.
Labour fell short of toppling the SNP administration in Glasgow at the council election, but are hopeful of taking the local authority next time.
It is understood there were internal Labour divisions on whether the party should have tabled an alternative budget this year.
Redmond insisted Labour should refuse and his view prevailed in the group.
Braat is expected to challenge Redmond and the vote takes place on Monday.
A Labour insider said Redmond was in a strong position to see off the challenge.
Both Redmond and Braat have been contacted.
