A man has been sentenced to life behind bars after he stabbed another man outside of a nightclub who he believed had 'disrespected him', a court heard.
Zechelle Reid, 31, plunged a knife into the chest of Jason Bentley-Morrison, 25, during a fight in front of a nightclub.
Reid, of no fixed address, was found guilty of the charge last week following a two-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court and must serve a minimum of 20 years before being considered for parole, Birmingham Live writes.
Reid had gone to Oxford Street in Digbeth on August 22, 2021. He got out of a Mercedes car and appeared to speak to a couple of people outside the Lab 11 nightclub before returning to the vehicle which he then parked on a street nearby.
Just mere minutes later, Mr Bentley-Morrison came out of the club and Reid, who by this time had returned to the club, appeared to 'mouth' something to the victim. At this point, Mr Bentley-Morrison appeared to hurl a punch at the defendant.
Both men were then separated and then each adopted a fighting or boxing stance as they faced each other. They then moved across the road followed by a large crowd, the court heard.
The men then confronted one another again with Reid making "lunging" movements towards Mr Bentley-Morrison while another man also approached the victim and made a swinging motion towards his head.
The victim then collapsed, falling face forward and later died in hospital. Reid, who denied the charge, had claimed he had been acting in self defence.
In passing sentence, Judge Paul Farrer QC said that when Reid had turned up at the club he had been frustrated that it had closed its doors.
He said: "It was at this point Mr Bentley-Morrison left the club. The CCTV demonstrates that he was on his
