Kentucky state Sen. Steve Meredith has been selected to serve as chairman of the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs & Public Protection Committee. Senate President Robert Stivers announced Meredith's assignment Monday.
Meredith is a Republican from Litchfield. He succeeds Sen. C.B.
Embry, who was the committee's longtime chairman. Embry died last month after a long battle with cancer. Kentucky state Sen.

Agents from the FBI’s Louisville Field Office traveled to 345 Paschal Ballard Lane in Bardstown, Kentucky early Monday morning to conduct "judicially authorized activity" related to Rogers’ July 2015 disappearance, the bureau announced on Twitter. Rogers was 35-years-old when she was last seen on July 3, 2015, at the Paschal Ballard Lane address where a farm owned by the family of Roger’s boyfriend at the time, Brooks Houck, is located, local news station WDRB.com reported. Houck was the father of one of Rogers’ children and was allegedly the last person to have seen the woman before she disappeared.

A Kentucky couple has been arrested after authorities discovered human remains inside a tote bag in a storage locker while searching for a missing girl. Cheyanne Porter, 27, and Jose Gomez-Alvarez, 31, were each charged with tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday in a news release. Deputies learned of the missing girl from a caller who reported that they had not seen one of the children who was in the care of Porter and Gomez-Alvarez for some time. "The caller stated that [Porter and Gomez-Alvarez] had different excuses as to why this child was never with the other children and believed something may have happened to the child," the sheriff’s office said.
