Keanu Reeves & Jonah Hill Team Up For Dark Comedy ‘Outcome’

Aziz Ansari is a rare filmmaker who is getting a second chance to do his feature film debut. After the drama surrounding his first-first film, “Being Mortal,” led to that movie getting scrapped midway through production, the actor-filmmaker has turned his sights to another project, “Good Fortune,” which he hopes will finally make him a feature director.  Today, Lionsgate announced the upcoming film, “Good Fortune,” which is set to be written and directed by Aziz Ansari, becoming his new official feature film directorial debut.

Next month will see the Cannes Film Festival return and give us early glimpses of high-profile/awards-caliber films ahead of their official releases, and many will be premiered at the event. With that in mind, there are some interesting tidbits in a recent Screen Daily interview with Thierry Fremaux, the festival’s delegate general.

“Bupkis” is one of 2023’s most highly-anticipated television series, marking Joe Pesci’s first time starring in a television series for the first time in 37 years. Pesci retired from acting a year after the release of 1998’s “Lethal Weapon 4” and enjoyed many years away from the camera.

Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux unveiled the bulk of the Official Selection for the 76th edition of the festival at a packed press conference in Paris on Thursday morning.

Keanu Reeves is teaming up with Jonah Hill for a new film called Outcome.The new Apple Studios film has been co-written by Hill with Erza Woods. Hill will also direct the feature, which is described as a “dark Hollywood story” according to The Hollywood Reporter.Outcome will reportedly tell the story of Reef, who will be played by Reeves.

Two-time Emmy winner Sarah Silverman is returning to HBO for a new stand-up comedy special, her second for the premium cable network. The as-yet untitled special, taped in front of a live audience at The Wilbur Theater in Boston, MA, will debut this May.

Apple Original Films has landed Academy Award nominee Jonah Hill’s newest directorial effort Outcome in a competitive situation, Deadline can confirm. Keanu Reeves (John Wick franchise) is in negotiations to star alongside Hill in the film, marking his follow-up to Mid90s, as we were first to tell you.

Robert De Niro is slated to star in “Bobby Meritorius,” a new crime drama in the works at Paramount+. The series comes from Paramount Television Studios, which made a commitment to develop the show in a competitive situation.

No matter what Belgian filmmaking duo Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne, aka the Dardenne brothers, ever do, they will always be known as members of a very elite super club: two-time Palme d’Or winners at Cannes (that group includes Alf Sjöberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Bille August, Emir Kusturica, Shohei Imamura, Michael Haneke, Ken Loach and most recently, Ruben Östlund). While their latest film, “Tori and Lokita” did not win the Palme d’Or prize last year, it competed at Cannes, which is pretty much the case any time the Dardennes ever deign us with a new film—it’s an instant Cannes competition title which is nothing to sneeze at.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent  Sideshow and Janus Films have dropped the clip for Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s “Tori & Lokita” which had a strong opening in New York and Los Angeles on March 24 and is expanding this weekend to additional markets. The latest film by the two-time Palme d’Or winners, “Tori & Lokita” tells the timely story of two immigrants struggling to survive on the margins of society. The humanist drama won the 75th Anniversary Prize at Cannes in 2022. “’Tori Lokita’ is one of the most devastating cinematic experiences I’ve had in a long time,” said Martin Scorsese in a statement sent to Variety. “I’ve always admired the way that Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne make movies—their mastery is inseparable from their spiritual and ethical commitment to their characters, trying to make their way through an unforgiving world,” Scorsese continued. He went on to describe the film as “one of the Dardennes’ most harrowing films,” “also one of their greatest.”  

Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the upcoming feature film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, will officially premiere at the 76th Festival de Cannes. The May 20 debut of the Apple Original Film, which will premiere in the Grand Théâtre Lumière, will mark the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s return to to the festival after nearly 40 years, when he screening “After Hours” in 1986.

Keanu Reeves gifted stunt crew on John Wick: Chapter 4 t-shirts bearing the amount of times they died in the movie.According to The New York Times, Reeves gave out the shirts at the end of the shoot, which were “emblazoned with the number of times they were slain” throughout the blockbuster. It’s said for some of the crew, the number was above 20.Many of the stuntmen in John Wick: Chapter 4 were re-used in multiple scenes.

Mubi is adding over 50 features from the Sony Pictures’ library to its U.S. streaming service. The mix of studio and arthouse fare includes Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, The Last Picture Show by Peter Bogdanovich and films from Wes Anderson, Pedro Almodovar and Guillermo Del Toro.

Keanu Reeves has named Canadian pop group Alvvays as one of his favourite bands right now.Speaking to NME, the John Wick: Chapter 4 actor opened up about his fondness for the indie group, but admitted he’s still yet to buy their latest album, ‘Blue Rev’, on LP.“I don’t have their new record. I bought it digitally, but I don’t have it on vinyl,” said Reeves.Joking that ‘Blue Rev’ is his “favourite album to be”, he added: “Can I say that? Because I love that band.”Explaining why they’re currently one of his favourite groups, the actor said: “I like me a good pop song and I like me a kind of inventiveness in it.

Martin Scorsese‘s Killers Of The Flower Moon has received its theatrical and Apple TV+ release dates.The new film, which stars Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, will be released in select cinemas on October 6, before hitting the streaming service globally on October 20.Adapted from David Grann’s true-crime thriller of the same name, Killers Of The Flower Moon details the real-life killings of the native Osage people in 1920s Oklahoma, where oil deposits were discovered.De Niro plays powerful rancher William Hale, while DiCaprio plays his nephew, Ernest Burkhart. The rest of the cast features Lilly Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, and country music stars Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.Jack White also features in the cast, but like the other musicians in the film, he won’t be playing music.The film has a reported budget of over $200million (£141,840), making it Scorsese’s most expensive project to date.

A report from The Wall Street Journal reveals that Keanu Reeves’ eponymous assassin says only 380 words across 103 lines of dialogue during “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which runs nearly three-hours long with its 169 minute runtime. Nearly a third of Reeves’ dialogue in the sequel consists of just one single word. As reported by Wall Street Journal: “In the first installment, clocking in at 101 minutes, Mr. Reeves said a total of 484 words. With a run time of 169 minutes, the fourth movie pushes three hours but features just 380 words by Wick. About 10% of them are featured in the movie’s trailer, which makes the hero seem almost chatty; Wick says more in that 2.5 minute clip than he does in the first 25 minutes of the movie itself.”
