In August 2019, a jury in Los Angeles federal court found that Katy Perry’s 2013 hit, “Dark Horse,” infringed on the copyright of a 2008 Christian rap song titled “Joyful Noise” by Marcus Gray, who records under the name Flame. The jury awarded $2.8 million in damages to Gray and his co-writers. On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Christina Snyder overturned the verdict on appeal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
