Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles is expanding its efforts to engage the industry side of the business and in June will host its inaugural IFFLA Industry Day. The festival was founded in 2002 and, now in its third decade of operation, has pivoted to a strategy of year-round programming and events. The center piece of the IFFLA Industry Day will be a pitch competition that involves selected emerging and established film and TV writers and directors who pitch their upcoming project to a panel of executives from different sectors of the industry. The executives and a live public audience will provide feedback and heighten the sense of discovery. The winner will receive a $10,000 development grant.

writers’ strike in Hollywood next month has taken its toll on production in Los Angeles, as the new quarterly report from FilmLA shows a 24% drop in the number of on-location shoot days recorded in the county. In Q1 of 2022, FilmLA recorded 9,832 shoot days as Hollywood pushed to make up for the time lost by the COVID-19 shutdown.

Concern about looming labor unrest and uncertainty surrounding pending corporate restructuring have contributed to a 35.8% plunge in on-location TV production in Los Angeles in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the same period last year, according to the latest report from FilmLA, the city and county film permit office.

The author was already a fan of Craig’s “The Edge of Seventeen.” “I knew she was the right one. I couldn’t be happier. I may be the only book writer who has ever said that the movie is better than my book, and I mean it,” said Blume, who was recently honored by Variety at its Power of Women luncheon. “This wonderful group has given me the gift of lifetime.”

California prosecutors are reviewing a sexual assault case against embattled Hollywood star Armie Hammer, authorities said Monday. "We take the allegations of violence against women very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing the case," Tiffiny Blacknell, the district attorney's director of communications, told Fox News Digital. Los Angeles police said they had not turned over a new investigation into Hammer, 36, and that the review likely involved an existing case.

After being hailed a hero for filling in a pothole in his Brentwood community, Arnold Schwarzenegger's good deed has not gone unpunished, with the city claiming he interrupted scheduled maintenance for a service trench. A city spokesperson clarified that the location "is not a pothole," but rather "a service trench that relates to active, permitted work being performed at the location by SoCal Gas, who expects the work to be completed by the end of May," in a statement given to NBC Los Angeles.
