Kate Middleton has missed the annual St Patrick's Day parade. Since The Princess of Wales married Prince William, she has taken over the role of participating in the St. Patrick's Day parade annually (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic).
However this year, the 42-year-old mother to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis has missed out on the traditional appearance as she is still recovering from her abdominal surgery. Instead, she was replaced in the ceremony in Aldershot by Lady Ghika, the wife of Lieutenant colonel Major General Sir Christopher Ghika. Although Kate was unable to make the parade this year, she and William posted on their Instagram and Twitter accounts to pay tribute to the Irish Guards.
The video was captioned: "Happy St Patrick’s Day! Here’s a sneak peak of the Irish Guards rehearsing for their annual parade.
Sláinte to all those celebrating today!" During last year's celebration, the Princess said in a speech: "I really couldn't be prouder to stand in front of you here today. "It really is a true honour to be your Colonel. I am here to listen to you, to support you, and to champion you in all you do – this is a responsibility I do not take lightly." While William said that being Colonel of the Irish Guards has been one of the "great honours of my life".
Kate's absence from the parade also comes after weeks of drama surrounding her whereabouts, despite the palace saying she will not attend Royal duties until after Easter. Due to the limited sightings of the Princess since her surgery on January 17, people online have began to speculate about her health and share theories about where she is. In a bid to stop the speculation, the palace released a heartwarming Mother's Day
