Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper activated a movement based on emotion for the first time since his health battles started from Covid-19. Derek, 54, returned home in April 2021 after spending a year in hospital fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus in 2020, which has since left him battling a number of ongoing health issues. Since then, he's been receiving round the clock care from his Good Morning Britain presenter wife, 54, their two children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, as well as care workers.
While getting footage for her upcoming new ITV documentary Caring For Derek, which airs on 22 February evening, Kate noticed that Derek actively moved to hug their son. Showing the film from the emotional moment, Kate explained: "He moves his arm to hug anyone, it happens to be Bill.
If you see – as Bill goes forward there, he moves his arm towards him and that is the first moment we've seen him be able to activate a movement prompted by emotion. "Not just someone going, 'Can you move your arm to the left or right?'" Kate went on to share that she couldn't help but break down into tears at the sight of it when she watched it back later. She shared: "Because I was outside dealing with bringing in all the kit and medication, I only saw that when we watched the footage back a few months ago and I had burst into tears.
