Since announcing that his new album ‘Donda 2’ will only be available via his own Stem Player, Kanye West reckons that he’s sold more than $2 million worth of the devices.Initially that sounds like quite a lot of money. Though that’s equates to sales of around 8000 devices.
Which means only a relatively small number of fans are willing to fork out $200/£200 to hear the new record in the days or more likely hours (minutes?) before it hits piracy sites.West announced last week that his new album – due out tomorrow – will only be available via the physical device he launched last August, which allows users to play back and remix his music.“’Donda 2’ will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player. Not on Apple, Amazon, Spotify or YouTube”, he wrote on Instagram on Friday, before setting out the rationale for that decision: “Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes.
It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own”.Of course, even with all the recent Spotify dissing, it seems unlikely that any new artist-led movement will be able to sustain everyone releasing albums on devices that cost $200 a pop, but I guess that’s not the point.
On Saturday, in a subsequently deleted post, West announced that he’d “made $2,227,012.05 in 24 hours” from over 8000 Stem Player sales. Not everyone is happy about this particular plan, though. On Friday evening, DJ Akademiks claimed on Twitter that Apple had pulled out of a “$2 million+” sponsorship deal with West following his announcement that he’ll be holding his new record back from all the streaming services.

Kanye West has told a court that claims he harassed his estranged wife Kim Kardashian on social media are “double hearsay”.Last week (February 23), Kardashian asked a court to fast-track the pair’s divorce due to a pre-agreed prenup. She told the court (via Rolling Stone): “I believe that the court terminating our marital status will help Kanye to accept that our marital relationship is over and to move forward on a better path which will assist us in peacefully co-parenting our children.”Kardashian then referenced recent (and since-deleted) social media posts from Kanye, including one in which he took aim at Kardashian’s new boyfriend Pete Davidson and told his fans to “look at this dickhead”.She told the court: “I very much desire to be divorced.
Kanye West says he takes issue with Kim Kardashian's claim that the rapper's «been putting a lot of misinformation regarding our private matters and co-parenting on social media,» because he says she can't prove he wrote the social media posts.According to new legal documents, obtained by ET, the rapper claims Kim's allegations of «misinformation» is «double hearsay.» He claims that his estranged wife, for starters, never bothered to attached the said social media posts to her declaration and «Kim needed to offer the social media posts into evidence» as well as «show that the posts were written by Kanye.»The rapper claims that had that been done, «the posts would be admissible as statements» but since Kim didn't submit the social media posts in her declaration, it's therefore not in the record. And as such, West wants Kim's «misinformation» statement to be inadmissible at a hearing next week when a judge is set to decide whether to grant Kim's request that she be declared legally single.Kim filed legal docs earlier this week saying Kanye's «misinformation» campaign on social media «has created emotional distress.» Among some of those posts includes attacking her boyfriend, Pete Davidson.
