Jurors have retired to deliberate their verdicts in Benjamin Mendy's rape trial. The French footballer, 28, is accused of raping one woman in October 2020, and of attempting to rape a second woman two years earlier.
He has pleaded not guilty to both charges. Both allegations are said to have occurred at Mr Mendy's mansion in Cheshire, while he was playing for Manchester City.
Following a two week trial at Chester Crown Court, jurors were sent out to deliberate at 10.45am today (Friday). Jurors have been told that the case is a re-trial, after Mr Mendy was previously found not guilty of other sexual allegations.

Mr Mendy has said that any sexual contact between him and the two women was consensual. Prosecutors allege that Mr Mendy 'took advantage' of the two complainants, after they had been invited to his home near Prestbury.
Woman One, as she is known in press reports of the case, has alleged that Mr Mendy tried to rape her during an incident in October 2018. She had met Mr Mendy and others abroad and had taken a 'liking' to one of his friends, who then invited her to Manchester.
She spent the night with Mr Mendy's friend at the footballer's house, and has claimed that Mr Mendy tried to rape her the morning after. He denies the allegation.
Woman Two has claimed that Mr Mendy raped her at his home in October 2020, after she was invited back following a night out at a bar in Cheshire. She has alleged that Mr Mendy saw her using her phone and took it from her, accusing her of taking pictures of his home.
