This Morning presenter Josie Gibson fought back tears as she opened up on losing four friends who tragically took their own lives.The 37 year old TV star, who is standing in for usual host Holly Willoughby after she tested positive for Covid-19, revealed she’d lost four people she knew to suicide in a frank conversation about the public’s struggle to access mental health services. Josie and co-host Phillip Schofield were joined by Doctor Nighat Arif to discuss how people’s mental health has been impacted by the pandemic and what is out there to help those who are in need.
During their heartfelt conversation, in which they shared how there is a huge backlog of those needing help, Josie became emotional as she reflected on her own loved one’s struggles. “I personally know them - the support was just not there. So how bad are these backlogs?” As Phil, 59, and Dr Arif listened to Josie, the GP went on to thank the down-to-earth star for sharing her story.
She explained: “The backlog is awful.The Royal College of Psychiatrists have already said that they’re aware and they’re trying to roll out the services as much as possible. “The difficulty is when the demand is so much - 4.3 million people want to access services, and remember, about a million are children and adolescents as well.
“The referral waiting list at the minute is six months to a year. We as GPs are aware of that, so Josie, you sharing that story is so important because when we make a noise, change happens.” Later in the chat, Dr
