Dad’s Day: Luke Combs’ new album ‘Fathers & Sons’ explores his daddy issues

Luke Combs — having ridden his historic cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” all the way to No. 2 on the pop charts — is one of the hottest country artists in the game right now.And as such, the 34-year-old North Carolina native is in that cushy zone where he can pretty much do whatever the hell he wants. His new album “Fathers & Sons” is what we call a “passion project.”It’s all about the love he has for his two sons: Tex Lawrence, who turns 2 next week, and Beau Lee, who was born just last August. The album — which continues the titular theme from 2022’s “Growin’ Up” and 2023’s “Gettin’ Old” — is also a shrewd marketing move, arriving just in time for Father’s Day weekend.

Ilana Kaplan Whenever the Decemberists have released an album, Colin Meloy has wondered if it would be their last. Perhaps fans may have felt similarly after the release of their 2018 LP “I’ll Be Your Girl,” as the Portland, Oregon-spawned indie icons found themselves in the midst of its longest gap between records. But there were several factors at play in the delay: a pandemic, fits and starts of songwriting, and Meloy’s other creative projects.

Bon Jovi lives on with new album ‘Forever’ — 40 years after their debut: review

Bon Jovi made their debut 40 years ago with their 1984 self-titled album featuring their hit “Runaway,” they were compared to the likes of Loverboy.Words like “characterless” and “nondescript” were used to describe their music in a review by the Washington Post, which called out Jon Bon Jovi’s singing as “high, hysterical screaming.”The review went on to slam his songwriting, saying: “He writes dumb songs about women.”And the review concluded with one final dig. And I quote: “The band’s brand of antiseptic hard rock only makes you want to cheer on all the more the undiluted heavy rockers like Motley Crue.”Ouch.
