Jordan Peele has come forth to tease his as-yet-untitled fourth directorial effort, previously dated for Christmas Day 2024, following its strike-imposed removal from Universal Pictures‘ release calendar.
Reflecting on the last year in the latest episode of the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, Peele noted that it was an “interesting” one which had him “in a state of listening” amidst the six-month double strike from WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
“I do feel like my next project is clear to me,” he added, “and I’m psyched that I have another film that could be my favorite movie if I make it right.”
Intel on the story and cast for Peele’s latest directorial effort are being kept under wraps for as long as possible, as is always the case with the filmmaker. But it was one of two from his Monkeypaw Productions that was quietly pulled from the release calendar on Christmas Day 2023. The other, a horror thriller only to be produced by Peele, had been dated for September 27, 2024. Now set for release on Christmas in place of the film helmed by Peele is Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, from Uni’s indie label Focus Features. Swooping in on the September date, meanwhile, was Lionsgate’s Saw XI.
Peele’s most recent feature, the sci-fi thriller Nope, opened in July 2022 and grossed over $171M worldwide. After putting himself on the map as a filmmaker with the Oscar winner Get Out, the actor-comedian also previously went on to helm the horror pic Us starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and more.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Jordan Peele is not ready to disclose any information about his next movie, which will serve as the follow-up to his 2022 science-fiction thriller “Nope,” but he does think it could be “my favorite movie” as long as he makes it right — no pressure. Peele was supposed to already be making his fourth solo directorial effort with Universal Pictures, but the Hollywood strikes delayed the project in 2023 and filming isn’t likely to start until later this year. “This has been…obviously, it’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be,” Peele said on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast when asked about his new movie.
Despite being his most polarizing film to date, Jordan Peele’s “Nope” still a very respectable 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and more than $171 million at the worldwide box office. Sure, that latter number is almost roughly $100 million less than the grosses of “Get Out” and “Us,” but given the current theatrical climate, it’s a big win.
