The 39-year-old comedian hosted the sketch comedy series on Saturday (February 26) and in his opening monologue, he joked about his drug intervention, going to rehab, “breaking up” with his drug dealer, and shared a super cute story about bonding with his 12-week-old son Malcolm!
“It is amazing to be here hosting Saturday Night Live for the fifth time. For many, many reasons, I’m grateful to be here tonight, after a very complicated year it is wonderful to be in a place that’s always emphasized sobriety and mental health,” John started as the audience laughed.

John then went on to talk about his drug intervention back in December 2020.
”When I walked into my intervention, I knew right away that it was an intervention,” he said. “Do you know how bad of a drug problem you have to have if when you open a door and see people gathered, your first thought is, ‘This is probably an intervention about my drug problem?’”
While he was in rehab, John talked about having to “break up” with his drug dealer, who told him, “I only bought drugs to sell to you because I was worried about you and I didn’t want you to get worse stuff off the street.”
Towards the end of his monologue, John opened up about bonding with his son Malcolm right after girlfriend Olivia Munn gave birth.
John recalled how Malcolm was put under a heated lamp shortly after he was born, and mimicked how the just-born baby hated the bright light and covered his eyes with his arm.
“He was annoyed, but he didn’t say anything. And I was like, ‘That’s my son,’” John said. “A polite man in an uncomfortable situation, but he’s not going to make a fuss.”
