John Leslie documentary divides viewers as they relive dramatic rise and fall

Last night's Channel 5 documentary - The Rise and Fall of John Leslie - showed how the presenter who once had the world at his feet, spectacularly fell from grace after he was mistakenly named on live TV as the man suspected of raping a young Ulrika Jonsson. But opinions on the programme were mixed regarding whether the presenter had been treated fairly over the years, according to tweets posted when the programme aired.
One viewer said: "If men under investigation for sex crimes did not have their names in the media then Jonathan King and Max Clifford would have never been convicted." However another said: "He may not have been a saint, but who is. Who can hold their hands up & say I have never behaved inappropriately, other than liars." One watcher commented: "You know nothing about the man except what you have read." Another viewer added: "Was John Leslie innocent of all the allegations made against him? He was acquitted on every charge he appeared in court for." The hour long programme included footage of Leslie, now 57, who once dated Catherine Zeta-Jones casually rehearsing lines he would say outside of court if cleared, at home with his then girlfriend, Abi Titmuss.
Abi later launched a showbiz career having found herself in the spotlight due to their relationship. She was delighted to be made a reporter for the Richard & Judy show in late 2003, but lost the role early in 2004 when a sex tape in which she was involved was leaked.
