‘Blood Meridian’: John Hillcoat Says Cormac McCarthy Is Writing The Adaptation Of The Bloody, Bleak Western

In late April, New Regency announced that John Hillcoat will adapt Cormac McCarthy‘s “Blood Meridian” for the big screen, Hillcoat’s second McCarthy adaptation after 2009’s “The Road.” Regarded in literary circles as one of the greatest American novels of all time, McCarthy’s epic western about the human scalping trade in the Southwest 1850s isn’t for the faint of heart. And for a director, helming a film like “Blood Meridian” represents equal parts passion and masochism.

John Cleese Won’t Cut Controversial ‘Life of Brian’ Scene for Stage Adaptation: ‘All of a Sudden We Can’t Do It Because It’ll Offend People’

William Earl Monty Python star John Cleese has expressed disdain for modern sensibilities and “PC culture” on several occasions in recent years. The comedian found a new battleground for those convictions by claiming that his plans to mount a stage adaptation of the 1979 comedy “Life of Brian” have been “misreported” by the Daily Mail (in a now amended article), particularly in regards to the potential decision to revive a controversial scene involving a transgender character. Cleese shared his thoughts in a series of unthreaded posts on Twitter last Thursday. “A few days ago I spoke to an audience outside London. I told them I was adapting the ‘Life of Brian’ so that we could do it as a stage show (NOT a musical). I said that we’d had a table-reading of the latest draft in NYC a year ago,” Cleese wrote. “All the actors — several of them Tony winners — had advised me strongly to cut the Loretta scene. How Will Brazil Rebuild Its Film and TV Industry? Some Early Indications from Powerhouse Government Orgs

John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Brazil’s on fire, and rapidly putting into place the policies that will rebuild its film and TV industries, which look set to transform it into the film-TV powerhouse of Latin America. That cuts several ways.  Under Jair Bolsonaro, Brazilian president over 2019-2022, ApexBrasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Agency, saw its funding for Brazil’s audiovisual sector almost entirely nixed. Often working together, promotion agency Cinema do Brasil, backed by Audiovisual Industry Syndicate of the State of São Paulo (SIESP), Projeto Paradiso, a philanthropic org focusing on new talent and project development, and SP Cine, the energetic São Paulo City film commission, did an extraordinary job to support and promote Brazilian filmmakers and companies’ presence at festivals, drawing on highly contained resources.

Why Johnny Depp Says He No Longer Feels Boycotted by Hollywood

Johnny Depp is stepping back into the limelight. The actor made his highly publicized return to the Cannes Film Festival this week as his film, opened the 76th annual event. During a press conference on Wednesday, Depp remarked on what commentators have dubbed his «big-screen comeback» following the controversial defamation trial with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. «In regards to me and my life, the majority of what you’ve read is fantastically, horrifically written fiction,» Depp told reporters. «Did I feel a boycott by Hollywood? Well, you’d have to not have a pulse to feel at that point, 'None of this is happening, it’s just a weird joke or I have been asleep for 35 years.' Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing, because of something that is merely a bunch of kind of vowels and consonants floating in the air, you feel a boycott,» he continued. In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for the  where she came forward with domestic abuse allegations, though she didn't mention Depp by name.
