‘Joe Exotic’ Peacock Series Casts Dean Winters as Jeff Lowe

It appears the pandemic-induced fever dream idea of having Nicolas Cage star as Joe Exotic in a TV narrative adaptation of “Tiger King” was just too good (or weird) to be true. According to an interview with Variety, Cage explained why he is no longer attached to the Amazon version of the Joe Exotic story.

No one can blame Carole Baskin for this one. After a highly anticipated Tiger King scripted series was announced last year, Amazon — and star Nicolas Cage — have chosen not to move forward with the project.

It looks like Nicolas Cage won’t be stepping into the cowboy boots of Joe Exotic after all.  Following the immense success of the highly improbable Netflix documentary series "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" in 2020, the eclectic actor was tapped for an eight-part dramatization of the life of the series’ subject, Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic.

Nicolas Cage has revealed that he won’t be playing the role of convicted felon Joe Exotic as Amazon has reportedly shelved the “Tiger King” drama series. Amazon felt the series had become “past tense”, since “it took such a long time for them to come together,” the 57-year-old actor, an Oscar winner whose performances have been translated to thousands of memes, told Variety.

The Oscar-winning actor was set to play the viral star but said Amazon decided to shelve the project, inspired by the Netflix docu-series In a new interview with , Cage said that while he was very much into the project, Amazon ultimately felt like the content was «past tense,» after the series took so long to come together.
