Job centre in Wythenshawe shut because of extreme heat

The Job Centre in Wythenshawe has been temporarily closed due to the ongoing heatwave.
Temperatures could climb to 38C in Greater Manchester today, while forecasters predict the mercury will sizzle at possible highs of 41C in isolated areas. The UK and much of our region remains under its first red extreme heat warning, issued by the Met Office.
A notice on the entrance of the centre, which is based inside Wythenshawe Forum, cites the 'severe weather warning' as the reason for the closure. It reads: "Due to severe weather warnings issued for Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July 2022, this office will not open on these dates.

"Appointments for these dates will take place on the telephone or will be rescheduled. If you are due to collect a voucher in person, you will be able to do so on Wednesday 20 July or call on 0800 015 2902 to make alternative arrangements.
"Our telephone enquiry lines will be open as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes."
The decision proved unpopular with some social media users. Writing on local Facebook group Wythenshawe 1, one person said: "This is absolutely disgusting there's people crying because they need help. Closed due to severe weather conditions today and tomorrow. The building has air con for goodness sake."
Another said: "Wythenshawe job centre which has air con, closed because of the weather. Not a good example of work ethics for people seeking jobs. Jobseekers will think this is the norm for any future change in the weather and will think they are entitled to days off."
