Jimmy Buffett has passed away at the age of 76, according to a statement posted on his social media.
The post stated that the singer: "Passed away peacefully on the night of September 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."
Known for songs such as Margaritaville, the iconic American singer-songwriter leaves an impressive legacy from his 60-year career. Jimmy is survived by his wife Jane Slagsvol, whom he's been married to since 1977, as well as the couple's three children Savannah, Sarah, and Cameron.
According to Forbes, the singer also leaves behind a huge fortune with a net worth thought to be as much as $1 billion, reports the Mirror.
Following the news of his death, tributes have begun pouring in online with fans commenting on the family's Instagram post.
One wrote: "Thank you Jimmy! I see the world differently and better because of you! RIP", while another said: "Absolutely devastated. So grateful we saw you live so many times. Love you Jimmy,"
A third commented: "Oh nooooo ... we have lost a legend ... and a good person who touched so many".
The singer had been in and out of hospital in the months before his death, initially admitted back in May, according to reports from CNN.
His health struggles saw him forced to postpone a string of Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band concerts.
