Jim Goodwin is determined to steer his side to the Scottish Cup semi-finals this season.
That’s because he’s desperate for his players and the Saints faithful to experience the famous Hampden roar once again.
St Mirren supporters were locked out of the club’s semi-final clashes in the League Cup and Scottish Cup last season due to crowd restrictions, which they lost to Livingston and St Johnstone respectively in front of empty stands.
The Buddies are now just 90 minutes away from a return to the national stadium, where Goodwin famously lifted the League Cup back in 2013 in front of a massive turnout from Paisley.
The Saints boss would love to return to the stadium again with the full backing of the club’s fans to potentially cheer them on one step further than last season.
Goodwin said: “It was a really professional performance and we were clinical.
“We didn’t under-estimate Kelty in the build-up and we treated them with the same respect we would do any Premiership opposition.
“It was a real tricky tie as Kelty are not used to losing many games.
“But, the overall performance from every one of my players was consistent.
“It would be so nice to get there again.
“We were there twice last season and we want to be there again with the whole of Paisley behind us cheering us on.
“Then the lads who haven’t played there in front of our fans can experience the atmosphere properly.
“I’ve been there myself as a player and I know that having 15 to 20,000 St Mirren fans there cheering you on, as we did in 2013, is something that stays with you forever.”
