Jesse Lingard was denied an Old Trafford farewell against Brentford on Monday in Manchester United’s final home game of the season.
This prompted an angry Instagram post from his brother, in which he said: "20 years of blood sweat and tears, four domestic trophies, three cup final goals, not even a farewell. No wonder it's Conference League next year.”
Lingard enjoyed a successful six-month loan spell at West Ham in early 2021 before returning to United. However, the 29-year-old has gone on to start just two Premier League games this term, and only four overall.

QPR striker Charlie Austin says he believes Lingard’s decision to stay on at United has caused his career to retract. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “With Jesse Lingard, staying at Manchester United for the following year, I think he’s taken two or three steps back, I really do.
“His stock was so high at West Ham, every week goals or assists. He went there and really changed their season, his stock was so high.
“Then he wants to go back to Manchester United and fight for his place and unfortunately, he just couldn’t get it right, and this year it’s not worked out. And now you’re looking at it - what are the possibilities for Jesse Lingard now?’
He added: “Now it’s time for him to have a clean break and I just felt like last year at West Ham that was the time for him to go.”
