Jeremy Clarkson's girlfriend Lisa Hogan has told how she was warned she could get a criminal record over a Diddly Squat farm shop faux pas.
The couple's move to rural life is documented in Amazon Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm, which launches season three next week as they try to turn a profit on the business that has been hit by planning application refusals and complaints from locals. But things almost got even worse for Lisa, who told how she had nearly made a catastrophic business error that could have earned her a criminal record.
Apparently, the farm shop is only allowed to sell local produce, with strict rules in place that set a limit to anything sold needing to be from within 16 miles of their farm as she was advised by land agent and advisor Charlie Ireland. Lisa said: "Charlie had to have a serious conversation with me and say that I could end up with a criminal record if I didn't comply.
It's council regulations which I respect, especially after Charlie explained it to me in his clear and concise way." Diddly Squat Farm Shop has been hit by controversy before, as locals have complained about the huge traffic jams it causes and Jeremy has admitted he even found customers urinating on his driveway.
The couple have also been refused planning permission to open an upmarket restaurant on the site. Season three will include some of the tough realities of farming life, as Jeremy explained: "Farming on television has been portrayed as fresh straw, fluffy lambs, agreeable calves: a bit like Babe.
I had it in my head that farming was much dirtier and harder, and I always wanted to show it like it actually is. "Farming doesn't have many happy endings, as we've discovered.
