Jennifer Grey Reveals How She Feels About Her Nose Jobs 30 Years Later

Jennifer Grey is getting candid about her plastic surgery.
While promoting her new memoir Out of the Corner, the 62-year-old actress shared that it was initially her two nose jobs were initially her mother’s idea.

“I was so upset with my mother for always telling me I should do my nose,” she told People in a new interview. “I really thought it was capitulating I really thought it meant surrendering to the enemy camp. I just thought, ‘I’m good enough. I shouldn’t have to do this.’ That’s really what I felt. ‘I’m beautiful enough.’”
She went on to say she had been hearing similar messages from a very young age, noting that her mom was trying to be “pragmatic” and make it easier for her to be cast in movies.
“It wasn’t like, ‘You’re not pretty,’” Jennifer explained. “It’s like, ‘Guess what? If you don’t want to be an actor, okay. But if you wanna be an actor…’”
She said that while she was “completely anti-rhinoplasty” as a child, she now understands why her own parents opted to get surgery in the 1950s.
“I understand they were assimilating,” the star said. “I understood that you had to change your name and you had to do certain things, and it was just normalized, right? You can’t be Jewish. You know, you can’t look Jewish. You’re just trying to fit into whatever is the group think.”
Jennifer got her first nose job after Dirty Dancing in 1987, following it up with another corrective surgery after there was an irregularity caused by the first. She said that the second nose job left her nose “truncated” and “dwarfed and recalled a painful moment where Michael Douglas didn’t recognize her at a movie premiere.
