James Gandolfini's Son Stars as Young Tony Soprano in First Trailer for 'The Many Saints of Newark'

If you’re a fan of “The Office,” you know that after Steve Carell left the series, the show found it difficult to replace him, often relying on guest stars to help carry the load. Well, eventually, the show landed on James Spader to guest star in a string of episodes, but before that, according to the hosts of the Talking Sopranos podcast, James Gandolfini was in line to appear.

It was the easiest $3 million James Gandolfini ever made.

Talking Sopranos” — a podcast hosted by “The Sopranos” co-stars Michael Imperioli, 55, and Steve Schirripa, 63 — it was revealed that Gandolfini had been offered a role to replace the character Michael Scott as branch manager of Dunder Mifflin on “The Office,” following Steve Carell’s departure from the NBC show in 2011.

The trailer, which dropped on Tuesday, spotlights the young Tony and his relationship with Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), the father of Christopher Moltisanti, played by Michael Imperioli in the series.“The Many Saints of Newark,” which recently saw its release date pushed back one week, is written by the show’s original creator, David Chase, and Lawrence Konner and directed by “Sopranos” veteran Alan Taylor.
