Jake Gyllenhaal to Play War Hero in ‘Combat Control,’ MGM Nears Deal for Sam Hargrave-Directed Film

This will mark Mendes first film since his Oscar-nominated 1917 and will also mark the first time both he and Colman have worked together. The film will also re-team Mendes with cinematographer Roger Deakins, who won an Oscar for his work on 1917.

About 20 years ago, “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” delighted audiences and ended up being nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The franchise would go on to spawn a Netflix TV series, but no formal sequel film was released.

Jake Gyllenhall is returning to the military genre after tackling Operation Desert Storm in Sam Mendes’ 2005 flick “Jarhead” as he’ll be playing real-life serviceman Air Force Combat Control Technician Chapman, a recipient of the Medal of Honor in 2018 for his actions in a classified mission that took place in Afghanistan on March 4, 2002, that led to his death.
