Midsomer Murders viewers were quick to react as Holly Willoughby made her acting debut in the show. The presenter, who has just a week left of her lengthy summer break from This Morning, made an early return to the small screen on Sunday night (August 27) in the ITV drama series.
Holly's episode, Witches of Angels Rise, saw the mum-of-three playing a version of her real-life self as the 'Queen of daytime telly'. When a body was found surrounded by ritual symbols on the eve of a gathering, DCI John Barnaby, played by Neil Dudgeon, must step into a world of self-proclaimed witches to find the killer.
But the episode itself was actually filmed two years ago, with the TV star speaking about her cameo back in 2021 after she was surprised live on This Morning by Midsomer Murders stars Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix when they asked her if she'd appear in the upcoming series.

The self-confessed Midsomer Murders fan said at the time: "Yes! Of course I say yes. I have seen every single episode since it started way back when. Are you serious?" She went on to joke about her acting abilities, quipping: "I mean you are going to have to kill me off really quickly because I am terrible at acting. I don't know what I am going to do."
But the 42-year-old was safe from the chop and remained in one piece throughout her sporadic appearances in the show. And those watching were quick to have their say on her acting debut - or more so shared their complaints about the specific line that introduced her into the programme.
@GreenWill92 tweeted: "'Is that the Queen of Daytime?' Ah yes, top quality realistic not-at-all-forced dialogue there ITV.
