ITV Love Island’s Sammy Root says Jess relationship was 'mad' – ‘I’m moving on'

Love Island winner Sammy Root has opened up on his relationship with ex-girlfriend Jess Harding, as he described the public interest as 'mad'. This summer, the 22 year old went from an electrician to a household name after entering the Love Island villa on day four of the much-loved show.
Whilst there, he struck up a will-they-won't-they friendship and romance with beautician Jess, 23, and their relationship had viewers hooked as to whether they would eventually be together, after many setbacks. Eventually they did, with Sammy even asking Jess to officially be his girlfriend before they went on to win the show - looking shocked as they did so.
It seemed like the couple were going strong after leaving the villa together - before they split just two months later - which Sammy described in a statement at the time as a 'total shock' due to the fact that he read about it in the media. Now, Sammy is moving on, and in an exclusive chat with OK!, he opened up on the split, and how life has been since winning Love Island.
Sammy says of his breakup with Jess: "It was hard at first - that's an understatement. "When you've got so many people invested in your relationship and you're doing it so publicly, it's a bit mad.
But I've got amazing friends and family and I'm so privileged to be in this position, so I feel like I can't waste it and be stuck on one thing." He continues pragmatically: "I can't change it [the breakup]. I'd rather just move on and wish all the best for Jess, and make the most of what I can for myself."
