Loose Women's Kaye Adams has opened up on the terrifying moment she completely lost her hearing in one ear just before a live show, admitting she thought her career was over.
The ITV daytime star had been listening to her producers in an earpiece before the show last Friday, but without warning she lost her hearing in her right ear, believing she had gone deaf. Kaye, 61, shared a clip of the moment showing her looking confused and then worried, and told this Friday's viewers: "That's what you call a brave face, because behind that I was seriously panicking.
I wear hearing aids, which is fine and I manage quite well." But she added: "So to completely go deaf in this ear - I mean, I was terrified. "Initially, it was, 'Am I going to get through this programme,' because it's really hard with all the information that's coming in to do it with one ear, but then as it went on and we were talking, I'm thinking, 'Well, that's my career over, I've gone deaf in one ear, I can't do this job.' If they both went, that's a complete definite." Kaye had continued with the show despite her hearing loss, later sharing her scary experience with fans, and she added on Friday: "By the end of the programme, the voice in my head was saying there's something really wrong with you here.
I am a drama queen and I thought the worst had happened." Her co-star Nadia Sawalha told how she had also been worried for her friend and had encouraged her to go to A&E when she got back home to Glasgow, as had her audiologist who she phoned for advice. "I did what I was told eventually, but I didn't want to go (to hospital) because I didn't want anything to be wrong," she admitted.
