UK network ITV relaunched Big Brother this week and next it’s turning its attention in entertainment to The Genius Game.
The show is an adaptation of a cult Korean show from Endeavor parent CJ ENM in which ten players with crucial unique skills compete against each other in matches that test their strategic thinking and social skills.
Players are selected based on their intelligence, charisma and social IQ, analytical reasoning, attention to detail, memory and loyalty, and are forced to form alliance and decide who to turn and who to betray to be crowned ‘the Genius’ and win a cash prize.
Banijay UK-owned Remarkable, a sister to Big Brother maker Initial, is producing. Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment at ITV, and Joe Mace, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment Commissioning, ordered the show. Tamara Gilder is the executive producer for Remarkable, alongside Kelly Lynn and Ann Kidd.
“This is a battle of brainpower, communication, teamwork and deception, which will keep viewers gripped and guessing right to the end,” said Rawcliffe.
ITV struck the format deal with CJ ENM, whose SVP Jangho Seo said: “We hope it opens new doors for CJ ENM’s diverse content find a welcoming home in the UK and throughout Europe.”
Big Brother relaunched on ITV this week, taking a muted 2.5 million in its return overnight rating, though much emphasis is being place on viewing on streamer ITVX.
