Jack Grealish insisted that Manchester City didn't set out to significantly improve their goal difference in the win over Newcastle, but they were keen to take the chance to do so when it presented itself.
City's main priority against Newcastle was to return to winning ways and establish a three-point gap over Liverpool after they could only draw with Tottenham on Saturday. The 5-0 win for City not only achieved those goals, but saw the Blues move four goals ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, and also move ahead of them on goals scored.
If the sides finish level at the end of the season, City could win the title on those metrics, especially given they drew both meetings with Liverpool. However, Grealish said there were no specific discussions about goal difference against Newcastle, just an unspoken understanding of the need to score as many as possible if the chance allows.

"It wasn't spoken about but it's common sense, we look at the table, we're trying to win the league," Grealish told Sky Sports after a good individual display that saw him get a late assist as City added two goals to the scoreline in injury time.
"The main thing today was to get the win, you can't speak about goal difference when you haven't won the game. We faced a good Newcastle team, they've been brilliant since January. Today was a perfect response and perfect performance. You want to score goals as attacking players, especially me I try to score and assist, I haven't scored many this season. As the game went on we tried to score more.
"We have to go and win every game ourselves, it's down to us, we're in the driving seat. We can't look at what's going on
