Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu will maintain the number one shirt for the Republic of Ireland this month, despite the Carabao Cup heroics of Liverpool back-up stopper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Bazunu, 20, joined City from Shamrock Rovers in 2019 and continues to impress on loan at Portsmouth in League One this season. He has seven international caps and began the season as first choice for his country - even denying Cristiano Ronaldo from the penalty spot vs Portugal.
Ireland boss Stephen Kenny has rotated his goalkeepers in recent internationals, though, with Liverpool's Kelleher given a chance to impress for his country instead. He made headlines recently when he scored the winning penalty for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final after facing 10 previous spot kicks to win the cup for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Ahead of Ireland's two friendlies later this month against Belgium and Lithuania, Kenny has discussed the goalkeeping situation in his squad, where he confirmed that Bazunu still has the edge over cup hero Kelleher.
"When you meet Gavin for the first time in a group, he is a leader and has leadership qualities," Kenny said, saying Bazunu's mental strength as well as his technical ability is why he remains first choice.
"He is just someone who carries himself with this sort of aura. He would have done well in life whatever he had done. He has a presence, has a sort of unflappable nature that is incredible for one so young. He has obvious inbuilt character traits that give you the capacity to give away a penalty but then save it in the same vein.
