During lockdown the Queen stayed at home like the rest of us, but she had a little help with her hair. While we struggled with our unruly un-cut locks, Her Majesty was treated to a snip and style at ‘Kelly’s Salon’. In her newly updated memoir, royal dressmaker Angela Kelly described being among the core staff - aka ‘HMS Bubble’ - living at Windsor Castle in the height of the pandemic.
From March 2020, Angela washed, set and styled the Queen’s hair each week, in what the staff named ‘Kelly’s Salon’. She even gave it a trim when needed, but it made her pretty nervous. In the book extracts, first published by Hello! , Angela wrote: “During the first two weeks, I was shaking.
I’d only done her hair once or twice before. “The Queen knew I was nervous. She was so kind as she advised me on the very specific way to put the rollers in.” Soon, Angela grew in confidence and styled the Queen’s hair with ease.
But Her Majesty was vocal about her technique. “[She] started shouting at me, ‘Don’t do that, do it this way’.” Angela became so stressed, she found herself craving a tipple to help calm her down.
