Born in Manchester in 1972, Martin was raised in Cheshire's Delamere Forest, moving to London aged 19, to study Government and Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Martin is a CBE, an award-winning campaigning journalist, a TV and radio presenter, newspaper columnist, charity founder, an author and, most importantly, a dad and a husband.
However, just days before Martin's 12th birthday the TV presenter's life was uprooted by a devastating family tragedy. The money expert said his childhood came to an end when he suddenly lost his dearly loved mother.
According to The Mirror, a young Martin knew that something had to have happened when he was picked up by someone different from the Jewish Sunday School he attended on the horrific day. He soon found out that his mum, Susan Lewis, had been the victim of a brutal road accident while she was out horse riding.
Martin explained his ordeal when he opened up on Radio 5 Live in March 2018: "When I got home I was told there had been an accident involving a lorry but nobody told me how serious it was.
"They said my mum was in hospital and I always remember worrying that my mum wouldn't be there for my birthday."
Martin was convinced his mum would be back for his big day, but heartbreakingly she died the following morning.
