The Great Celebrity Bake Off is back for another series this year with a fresh batch of famous people. Among those trying their best to bake up a storm is Jodie Whittaker, Paloma Faith, Munya Chawawa, Spencer Matthews and Rhod Gilbert.
Comedian Rhod will be hoping to impress bakers Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, while also entertaining hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.
The 55-year-old funny man, from Wales, has been on the professional comedy circuit since around 2002 when he started as a stand-up comic. He then went on to appear in many TV and radio shows, including Have I Got News For You?, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and even has his own show — Rhod Gilbert's Growing Pains — on Comedy Central.
Since launching his own show in 2020, he has hosted five series of Growing Pains. In 2023, Rhod fronted A Pain in the Neck for Channel 4 which was a brutally honest documentary following his diagnosis with head and neck cancer.
He announced the news in 2022 and confirmed he was being treated at Cardiff's Velindre Cancer Centre. His treatment included surgery for a tumour, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy and he later found out that the cancer had not spread.
Rhod said finding out the news had been "the best day of my life." He told The Radio Times: "I was back on the road earlier this year when I got a call to say my latest scan had shown the cancer was in the areas they knew about, but it wasn't in my lungs or my brain." "The best thing was that the tumour had gone, and it was once again an ordinary blood vessel" he added. Rhod married long term partner Sian Harries, a Welsh actress, in 2013.
They launched a podcast titled, The Froth together, however Sian has had a successful career on her own as a TV writer for
