Mainoo, 18, is now on the verge of playing his first ever Manchester derby. There will be no sterner test for his development than going up against Pep Guardiola's star-studded side and, in particular, competing with Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and the others in midfield.
However, according to Huddlestone, there are few remaining superlatives to describe the Stockport-born sensation. "On my first day at Carrington, I came up and had a look at the lads in training," said Huddlestone in a wide-ranging interview with Sport Bible.
"I was speaking to a friend on the way back home and said [to them]: 'There are two lads who stood out during that session and one of them is a player called Kobbie Mainoo. He looks like a younger version of Yaya Toure.'"
