A woman who works for the NHS was delighted to find out she had been given Christmas Day off - but claims colleagues have made her feel like she doesn't deserve it as she has no children.
The anonymous worker revealed an "influx" of staff had asked her to swap shifts since the rota was released for the team.
Writing on Mumsnet, the woman explained she worked for the NHS 111 call centre and they operated 24/7. Having worked Christmas Day in previous years, she was looking forward to finally spending the day with her family, writes Birmingham Live.
However she had been made to feel uncomfortable by a number of colleagues who asked if she would cover their shift as she has no children. She asked fellow Mumsnet readers if she was being unreasonable for denying their request to swap shifts.
Her post read: "I have a job in a 111 NHS call centre, the office is open 24 hours, seven days a week. I have just been given my Christmas rota and to my delight I have been given off Christmas Day (which I have worked previous years). Now I have had an influx of colleagues who have children, asking me to cover their shifts since 'I have no children'. So, my question is, am I being unreasonable for thinking that I do not (apparently) deserve to have a Christmas off with my family (who have had a rough year) all for the sake of those who have children, who have been off previous years?"
A healthcare worker replied: "I'm a nurse. Not one of my colleagues would ever ask that. One of our support workers once said that people with kids should be given priority and was shot down completely. However we are very fair with who works what."
